President’s Report 2021-2022
Dear PCFA Board Members:
It is hard to believe that here I am writing the PCFA annual status report. It seems to me that it was only yesterday that I was kicking off my first meeting as President. It has been a very rewarding year for me as President and I have all of you to thank for the support you have given me as I conclude my first year.
While Covid still has been rearing its ugly head this past year we were still able to push forward and get back to doing in person meetings, fundraising and community events. I still remember Annette and I going to Greenville back in June to participate in the United Way of Montcalm/Ionia Counties shoe giveaway and coming back with 88 pairs of shoes stuffed in every corner of our vehicle.
Some of the highlights from the year were:
For our Stuff the Bus Coat Drive in October we were able to provide coats for 78 people and because of a generous donation we received we were able to purchase quite a few children’s coats to distribute that day. In addition, we were able to pass out some of the shoes we received back in June.
This year our Christmas program was able to guarantee a Merry Christmas for 110 families in the Portland Area. In addition to all the generous gifts and food donations the community provided to us we were also able to distribute the additional coats we had purchased as well as all the shoes we had.
It felt good being able to get back to doing fundraisers as we held two Burger Nights at the VFW hall and our annual Wine night at the Wagon Wheel. Between the three events we had over 250 people participate and all three nights we very successful.
Another area where we can be very proud is our Backpack for Bellies program. This is their third year and currently we are providing meal assistance to over 120 children in the Portland Community and to date the PBB group have provided over 11,000 meals to help those who are in need.
Moving forward I am looking forward to continuing working with both the Grand Rapids Foundation as well as the Ionia County Foundation to grow our partnership with them and expand our presence in the Portland Community.
In closing, I would like to thank each one of you for your dedication and passion in volunteering. This is what makes the Portland Community Fund Association the wonderful organization it is. It makes me proud to be part of it.
Once again Thank You.
